Payments, refunds & disputes

How milestone money is held, released and returned. Last updated: September 2026.

How payments work

Every contract on MeGC is paid by milestone. The client funds a milestone before the work on it starts; the money is held in escrow; when the client approves the milestone it is released to the vendor's payout account.

Approving a milestone

When the vendor asks for a milestone to be approved, the client checks the work and approves it or explains what is missing. Approved milestones cannot be taken back.

Refunds

  • A milestone that is funded but not started can be cancelled by agreement, and its money returned to the client.
  • If the work on a milestone is not delivered, the client can ask for the milestone's money back; the vendor can respond with what was done.
  • Money already released to the vendor is between the client and the vendor.
  • Card processing fees may not be returnable.

Disputes

If a client and a vendor cannot agree, either can contact our support team. While a disagreement is open, the milestone's money stays held. Support reviews the contract, the project's messages and files, and the evidence both sides send, and may release the money, return it, or split it between them.

Timing

Released payments reach the vendor's account on Stripe's payout schedule. Refunds go back to the original card; banks usually show them within a few business days.
